High Plains Institute

Three Steps to a Community Commonwealth

Step 1:  Dialoging and Deliberating

The Institute supports people working to build community as the means for meeting our individual needs while honoring our common values.

The first of High Plains Institute's three steps to a Community Commonwealth is "Dialoging and Deliberating".

In the course of the "Dialoging and Deliberating" step, a group of individuals identifies a set of shared values, develops plans for the group, and accesses training and resouces such as:

Community forums
Meeting facilitation and Consensus Decision-Making process (link)
Accountability through Open-Book Management (link)
Conflict Resolution (link)
Constructive Criticism (link)
Appreciative Inquiry (link)

There are also many other ways to build and maintain community cohesion.

The group should also decide, if it hasn't already, what specific form of cooperative endeavor it wishes to engage in.  For some specific examples, see the next step, "Legal Design".
